Turbo Cube - Video Cube Media Processor

Turbo Cube is a non linear online editing system created by ImMIX. It uses its own media processor and easy to use control panel, but operations are controlled through a Power Macintosh computer. It is Macintosh oriented in so far that video, graphics and audio import and export formats are compatible with Macintosh.

Its original storage capacity is one hour of (broadcast-quality) video and two hours of CD-quality stereo audio; with up to five additional modules it can provide six hours of (broadcast-quality) video and 12 hours of CD-quality stereo audio.

For video there are two video channels and one channel dedicated to titling and graphics. The digital audio mixer allows for four real time stereo channels. The video storage consists of two fixed disk drives with 4.2GB capacity each, while the audio is sampled at 16 bit, and stored in a fixed 610MB disk drive. PAL, NTSC, 625/50 and 525/60 formats can be supported by the Turbo Cube.

Turbo Cube uses its own ImMIX compression technology (wavelet compression scheme), which allows on-line usage; its own ImMIX hardware modules for real time creation of 3D DVEs allow digital video effects to be applied simultaneously: there is no need for rendering (i.e. digital video effects are created in real time rather than calculated by specialised software and "rendered" photogram by photogram.)

Although the Turbo Cube is mainly intended for on-line editing, it can also be used for off line purposes, creating CMX compatible EDLs. It reads EBU time-codes from serially controlled VTRs, and internally creates EBU timecodes. The Turbo Cube can import CMX 3600/3400 format EDLs, import and export QuickTime, PICT and AIFF files.
